Matthew Hirt, Associate Minister

Matthew Hirt became the Associate Student Minister at Bethel in September 2014. He grew up in Vickery, OH. He attended Bowling Green State University for 2 years before enlisting in the U.S. Navy as a submarine sonar operator after 9/11. He served a five-year enlistment and received an honorable discharge. He completed his B.A. in Religious Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2009. While studying at VCU he met Heather and they were married in August 2009. After their wedding they moved in Wake Forest, NC where Matthew completed a Master of Divinity in International Church Planting at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS). In 2011 they began a three-year term of service with the Southern Baptist International Mission Board in Nepal. Matthew completed his M.Div. while overseas in December 2013. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Applied Theology/International Missiology through SEBTS.

In addition to teaching 7-12 grade students on Sunday morning and Wednesday evening, Matthew writes a blog at his website:

Matthew loves to teach with an emphasis on training (actually doing something with what is taught) as part of fulfilling Christ’s command to make disciples who obey what Christ taught. Matthew eagerly shares the good news of Christ with all who are willing to listen, and trusts that the Holy Spirit is already moving in the lives of many people waiting to hear of Christ’s sacrifice for them. Matthew is an avid reader, hiker, and enjoys dabbling in woodworking when the schedule allows for it.
